Taiwan reported one new imported case of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of confirmed infections so far up to 446.
The patient in this new case returned to Taiwan on a charter flight from Malaysia Saturday. He had previously spent several months working in Bangladesh. The Central Epidemic Command Center says there is a good chance the man had contracted COVID-19 while still in Bangladesh.
He is now the third passenger on that charter flight to have tested positive for COVID-19. The other two, a couple who were also returning from Bangladesh via Malaysia, have been in the news for falsely telling authorities that they had worn protective clothing on the flight. They now face a fine of up to NT$300,000 (US$10,000) for lying and putting others in danger.
Despite the continued trickle of imported COVID-19 cases, Taiwan has gone 67 days without a new case of domestic origin.
