Government printing second batch of economic stimulus vouchers
The government plans to print a second batch of vouchers aimed to soften the economic impact of COVID-19.

The government plans to print a second batch of vouchers aimed at softening the economic impact of COVID-19.

According to Cabinet spokesperson Ting Yi-ming, that’s because so many people opted to purchase their vouchers in paper rather than electronic form. The government estimates that 17 million people will be using paper vouchers.

The Cabinet has already printed an initial batch of 14 million vouchers due to the large number of pre-orders it received. The paper vouchers have proved more popular than expected. Ting says that if large numbers of pre-orders for them continue to come in, the Cabinet may print a further two to three million.

Ting says that the plan to boost the economy with vouchers will be just as effective, regardless of whether people decide to use paper or digital versions. Tings says that with vendors’ and retailers’ promotion strategies, the economy is sure to see an uptick as long as people are willing to spend.
