The government’s plan to stimulate consumption with special vouchers got off to a good start Wednesday, the first day to buy and spend the coupons. Taiwanese citizens and their foreign spouses are eligible to purchase NT$3,000 worth of these vouchers for just NT$1,000.
The voucher program is part of the government’s plan to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Post offices are selling the vouchers. Lines at post offices were not too long on Wednesday morning, though there were a few people who lined up as early as 5am at the Taipei Beimen Post Office.
Vouchers are also on sale at convenience stores for those who pre-order them.
Deputy Transportation Minister Chi Wen-jong says there are 23.74 million people eligible to get the vouchers. Of these, 11.92 million have ordered vouchers so far. 10.35 million have opted for paper vouchers, while a further 1.57 million have chosen to tie them to credit cards, e-wallets, or stored value cards online.
