People in Taiwan are flocking to the Summer Travel Expo, which began on Friday. The government has been encouraging citizens to travel around Taiwan by giving them travel subsidies and stimulus coupons. Many destinations are offering special packages for travelers in the coming months.
With the COVID-19 outbreak contained in Taiwan, people are free to travel domestically and explore all that Taiwan has to offer.
Visitors flocked to the Summer Travel Expo that began on Friday. There, they used the economic stimulus coupons they just got this week. Every citizen can buy NT$3,000 worth of coupons for just NT$1,000. Not too bad, especially if you couple it with the government’s travel subsidy of NT$1000 a night per person-- or two nights if you’re staying on an outlying island.
When it comes to where to go use this subsidy, Taiwan’s people are spoiled for choice. There is beautiful coastline, great food, and a wide range of museums.
Taitung just began its International Hot Air Balloon Festival, which runs until the end of August. It will also be holding its international surfing and iron man competitions.
Then there are outlying islands like Matsu. It takes a boat ride or a trip by plane to get there, so travelers can even get the feeling that they are going “overseas”! Once there, visitors can see a giant statue of the goddess of the sea and the exotic “blue tears” phenomenon that lights up the surrounding sea at night.
And for those who want to catch an aerial view of Taipei, Taipei 101 is also offering a special discount for visitors to its observatory. Go now, and you can get in for just one-fourth the usual price - only NT$150 - until the end of September.
