The 2020 Taipei-Shanghai Twin City Forum is set to kick off Wednesday. This year’s event will be held virtually as delegates from Shanghai are unable to visit Taipei due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The one-day event will focus on disease prevention exchanges and economic development. There are also four discussions on health and medical care, the industrial economy, smart transport, and regional management.

Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je and Deputy Taipei Mayor Huang Shan-shan will attend the event virtually as will Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng and Vice Shanghai Mayor Zong Ming.

Deputy Taipei Mayor Huang Shan-shan will give a speech on creating the city’s new values while her Shanghai counterpart will give a talk on curbing the epidemic and economic development.

The two sides have agreed to use Cisco, a software developed by a California-based company, for videoconferencing. Earlier this month, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je made it clear that Taiwan doesn’t want to use Huawei and China doesn’t want to use Google.
