The Central Epidemic Command Center says that Taiwan will open up to medical tourism starting on August 1.
The center said Wednesday that foreign nationals needing medical assistance can apply to be treated in Taiwan through medical organizations. Taiwan’s health ministry will then evaluate applicants on a case-by-case basis, looking at factors such as urgency, treatment continuity, and relevant risks. This opportunity does not apply to those interested in health check-ups, cosmetic surgery, or other non-urgent medical services.
Patients may also apply to have two family members and one medical professional accompany them.
The center says that as Taiwan begins offering its medical services to the world, it will also continue to keep its borders tightly under control in order to protect the health and safety of its citizens.
