BIO Asia-Taiwan Exhibition kicks off with added online platform
President Tsai Ing-wen speaks at the opening of this year's BIO Asia-Taiwan Exhibition on Thursday.

The 2020 BIO Asia-Taiwan Exhibition, an annual biotech trade show, kicked off in Taipei Thursday. However, because of travel restrictions put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s show is also taking place online.

Speaking at the show’s opening, President Tsai Ing-wen said that the fact that the exhibition is being held on schedule is a testament to the work Taiwan’s people and government have put into keeping COVID-19 at bay. She also said that Taiwan is happy to share its experience in preventing disease with the world during the course of the four-day exhibition.

Tsai spoke about the importance of the biomedicine field to Taiwan. She said that the field of biomedicine is an important target for development under the government’s industrial transformation plan. She said that last year, companies working in the field in Taiwan saw revenue grow by 8.7%, the highest margin of growth in recent years.

She said that in addition to sharing Taiwan’s successes in preventing disease with the world, it is important to look towards new opportunities for business in a post-pandemic world.
