Japan has announced it is ready to hold talks on easing COVID-19-related entry restrictions for Taiwanese travelers.
The foreign ministry welcomed the announcement on Thursday. Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou said that Taiwan hopes to strengthen cooperation with Japan in areas such as public health and disease prevention. She said this includes sharing of data about epidemics, work towards developing vaccines and medications, and exchanges between health experts from both sides.
Ou also spoke about the close economic ties Taiwan and Japan have. She said that relaxing COVID-19-related entry restrictions will help deepen these economic ties.
Ou said that Taiwan and Japan assist one another in times of crisis. She said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, too, the two sides have helped one another.
