Taiwanese woman shares story of reconnecting with former nanny
Hsu Tzu-han, center, talks about reconnecting with her former Indonesian nanny Dwi on Sunday.

The Museum of Contemporary Art invited a Taiwanese woman to share how she found her former Indonesian nanny after 15 years of no contact.

The Taiwanese woman, Hsu Tzu-han, said Sunday that many people had helped in her search for her nanny, Dwi. She spread the word through Taiwanese and Indonesian media outlets.

It might seem easy to reconnect with someone in the age of social media, but Hsu said that finding Dwi was like a miracle. She said that establishing contact had filled the hole in her heart that came from losing touch.

Hsu’s success story inspired Radio Taiwan International, Commonwealth Magazine, and dozens of Taiwanese news organizations to keep the ball rolling. The outlets worked together to launch a project to help people like Hsu to reconnect with their former nannies, most of whom were migrant workers from Southeast Asia.

There are well over a million people in Taiwan who had Southeast Asian nannies when they were younger. Since the project launched, many Taiwanese people have reached out with stories of former nannies they are hoping to locate.
