New Taipei brings in new technology to elderly day care centers
Daycare centers for the elderly in New Taipei City now have facial recognition technology for the clients to check into the centers with.

Most places in the world have daycare centers for children. Here in Taiwan we also have daycare centers for elderly family members. But while you might not want too much smart technology in your children’s lives, elderly daycare centers in New Taipei City are relying on smart tech to streamline services for the older generation and their family members.

At daycare centers for the elderly, one of the biggest concerns is making sure that grandma arrived safely. Now, centers in New Taipei City have a check-in system that uses facial recognition technology and a cute little robot that makes sure grandma signs in when she arrives.

The client’s whereabouts will then be sent to her family members through an app. Not only does the app offer information about when the client checked-in and checked-out, this social worker says it will also send grandma’s blood pressure measurements and other health data to her family.

Robot dogs are also a big help at these centers. Social workers use them to try and jog the clients’ memories. Here, they are guessing what song the robot is playing. The clients seem to enjoy the activities, which include matching animal sounds to their owners.
