Taiwan’s newly-appointed envoy to the United States, Hsiao Bi-khim, says that Taiwan is looking forward to building closer ties between the two sides.
On Monday, Hsiao met with David Stilwell, a State Department official in charge of East Asian and Pacific affairs. During the meeting, Hsiao said that Taiwan will work on expanding exchanges with the United States in the areas of economy, security, culture, and education over the next few years.
Hsiao, a former lawmaker and National Security Council official, took office last Friday. Hsiao is the first woman to hold this position, and was appointed to the job by Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan’s first female president.
