Three lawmakers  have been detained and held incommunicado in connection with a bribery case. That’s the decision made by the Taipei District Court on Tuesday.

The three lawmakers in question are Su Chen-ching of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), as well as Chen Chao-ming and Liao Kuo-tung of the opposition KMT.

The three men were detained over alleged bribe-taking that aimed to sway how lawmakers revise the Company Act.

Also on Tuesday, Premier Su Tseng-chang said it’s regrettable that unscrupulous businessmen were trying to bribe lawmakers for their own benefits.

Su said however he is pleased that the Cabinet did not bow to pressure from lawmakers and that the ruling DPP has been cracking down on corruption.
