Health authorities say they have found 80 people who had recent contact with a newly diagnosed Japanese COVID-19 patient. The Japanese man tested positive for COVID-19 on August 1, after returning to Japan from Taiwan.

The man had arrived in Taiwan on June 15. He went under quarantine for 14 days and began working in Taipei on June 30. He did not have any symptoms while he was in Taiwan. He tested positive at the airport upon arriving back in Japan.

Those who had recent contact with the man include his colleagues, as well as hotel staff and store personnel. In all, 36 of them are in home isolation, while eight others have left Taiwan. The remainder is being tested for COVID-19. So far, 39 have tested negative.

Meanwhile, authorities say that a Thai worker who had recently tested positive after leaving Taiwan was tested again and was “unconfirmed” to have COVID-19. His girlfriend and the 253 people he had contact with in Taiwan have all tested negative.
