The Central Epidemic Command Center confirmed a new case of COVID-19 on Thursday. The new case brings the total number Taiwan has recorded so far up to 477.
The new patient is a Taiwanese man who recently returned from working in South Africa. The man is known to have traveled to his point of departure in South Africa with two other Taiwanese nationals who tested positive for COVID-19 in late July.
Though the man did not have any symptoms upon arrival in Taiwan, he became ill on Monday, just over a week into his quarantine period. Health authorities say the man has been in quarantine since his arrival, and has not had contact with friends or relatives in Taiwan since his return.
