The Examination Yuan said Thursday that it hopes those calling for its abolition will reconsider.
The Examination Yuan is one of the five branches of Taiwan’s government. It is tasked with all national exams and is responsible for managing the nation’s civil service. However, there have been calls to abolish it, including from the Taiwan People’s Party and New Power Party.
In a statement, the Examination Yuan said that all should respect the significance and importance of its Constitution-mandated power. It also said that having a robust civil servant examination system is key to a nation’s long-term stability.
The Examination Yuan also says that the Constitution has explicitly separates its power from those of the Cabinet in order to ensure fair and transparent examinations. It says this gives all a chance to participate in running the country.
