A Japanese delegation led by former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori has arrived in Taiwan to pay its respects to late President Lee Teng-hui. Lee passed away last Thursday, aged 97.
The delegation arrived in Taipei on Sunday afternoon, and is set to depart for Japan again in the evening.
The delegation paid its respects to Lee at the Taipei Guest House, where a memorial for the late president has been set up.
During its three-hour trip to Taiwan, the delegation also called on President Tsai Ing-wen. President Tsai said that Lee Teng-hui placed a great emphasis on Taiwan’s relations with Japan, even after he left office. Mori said that Japan was grateful for Lee’s efforts to promote bilateral ties.
