A female Formosan black bear was recently rehabilitated and released back into the wild!
You might think you’re looking at a still picture, but take a closer look, this bear’s ears are moving. She’s a shy one, she is, but she just needs a little time to get familiar with her surroundings. A sniff here, a sniff there, a brave first step… And then she’s off!
The bear’s caretakers can’t help but get a little emotional. After all, this bear has come a long way since they took her in back in April. She was discovered caught in an illegal trap. Her front paw was severely injured. Now, after three months of treatment and rehabilitation, her caretakers are finding out that she’s quite the adventurous one!
After professional evaluation, she was deemed fit to return to the wild. The Taitung Forest District Office says that the entire rescue and rehabilitation process went very smoothly. A number of organizations-including a university, the National Airborne Service Corp, and the Taiwan Black Bear Conservation Association-came together to make sure this little bear can live a bearable life in the forest!
