President Tsai Ing-wen says Taiwan can play an important role in providing reliable data security systems to the world. She made the comments at the opening of the data security expo CYBERSEC 2020 which kicked off in Taipei on Tuesday.
Tsai said that data security has become very important as there are increasing threats to national security and hackers have become increasingly skilled in using a variety of tactics. These include hacking social media accounts, stealing corporate secrets and intellectual property rights and impacting democratic systems.
The president outlined the government’s four major data security goals. First, Taiwan is developing a ministry to deal with threats to technology, data security, telecommunications, the Internet and media. Second, Taiwan will strive to be a leader in AI, the Internet of Things, and data security so it can produce reliable products to the world. The government also aims to strengthen the protection of its own data security infrastructure and upgrade its digital power.
As Taiwan begins using 5G networks, the president said public and civic sectors will work together to help Taiwan produce trustworthy data security systems for the world.
