Taiwan racked up one new imported case of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total to 485.
A spokesperson for the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), Chuang Jen-hsiang, says the latest case is a male Taiwanese child over the age of 10 who has exhibited no symptoms. The boy lives in the United States and had returned to Taiwan on August 5 to visit family. He was tested for COVID-19 on Saturday, and confirmed to have the virus on Monday.
Officials are not tracing any contacts for the boy. They say he engaged in proper preventative measures during the flight, and has been in quarantine since arriving in Taiwan. He has had no contact with his family here.
Of the 485 cases that Taiwan has recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, 393 were imported, 55 were local transmissions, and 36 occurred as part of a cluster infection on board a navy ship. One additional case is still under investigation.
