Foreign students enrolled in schools up to the high school level can return to Taiwan beginning Wednesday. That was the word from the Central Epidemic Command Center on Wednesday.
The center says that this includes students from Hong Kong, Macau, and China, as well as their parents. Those who enter Taiwan must still undergo a 14-day quarantine and take a COVID-19 test.
Those planning to enter for academic purposes must have their applications approved by the education ministry. The ministry estimates that around 2,500 such students will be returning to Taiwan.
The Mainland Affairs Council also says that the government plans to grant entry to Chinese university students enrolled in Taiwanese universities, as well as the China-born children of Taiwanese citizens. These are generally children with one Taiwanese parent and one Chinese parent.
Last week, the government started allowing the entry of Chinese children aged 2-6 who hold Taiwan residence permits. Now, work is underway to lift restrictions on Chinese children with residence permits who are over the age of six.
