The Central Epidemic Command Center on Tuesday announced that a Taiwanese woman who flew to Shanghai, China has tested positive for COVID-19. An investigation is being conducted regarding the source of the woman’s infection.
The woman is in her 70s and lives alone in southern Taiwan. She arrived in Shanghai on August 15 and tested positive six days later when she had a sore throat during quarantine.
A total of 33 persons have been identified to have close contact with her before she left Taiwan. Of these contacts, 14 of them underwent polymerase chain reaction tests for COVID-19 and all tested negative. The same group were also tested for antibodies, but the results have yet to be released. The remaining 19 are being reviewed for whether they need to be tested for the coronavirus.
