Taiwan is setting up a representative office in the southern French city of Aix-en-Provence.

On Tuesday, Taiwan’s foreign ministry said, “France is a core member state of the European Union, and Taiwan and France want to expand trade, aerospace, biomedical and technology cooperation.”

Taiwan’s representative to France, Wu Chih-chung, says that southern France is a tourism hotspot and a cultural hub, the site of events like the Cannes Film Festival and Festival d’Avignon.

The new office will serve the broader Aix-Marseilles-Provence Metropolis. Wu says he looks forward to promoting greater exchanges with France in the areas of culture, technology, and tourism.

France will become the fourth European country after the UK, Germany, and Switzerland to host multiple Taiwanese representative offices.
