A Filipina who recently returned to the Philippines from Taiwan has tested positive for COVID-19.
The woman had been in Taiwan for work since February 27. She was tested for COVID-19 on arrival back in the Philippines on August 19.The test came back positive August 21. She has shown no symptoms of COVID-19.
Health authorities have identified 21 people who came into contact with the woman shortly before she left Taiwan. Twenty of these people are in home isolation, while another person has been told to monitor their health. All have been all been given polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. The two tests that have yielded results so far have both come back negative.
In related news, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung has reported on another case of COVID-19 in a person who had recently left Taiwan. The patient is a Taiwanese woman who tested positive in Shanghai. An initial test on her arrival in the city came back negative. However, she developed a sore throat on August 21, while still in quarantine. A COVID-19 test came back positive.
She has been in a hospital isolation ward since August 23. Taiwanese health authorities have identified 14 people who had recently come in contact with her. All have tested negative for COVID-19.
Taiwan itself has not yet seen any new cases of COVID-19 this week. As of Wednesday, the number of cases confirmed in Taiwan since the start of the pandemic stands at 487.
