The foreign ministry says it welcomes Japan’s decision to open its borders to Taiwanese businesspeople. That’s the word from Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou on Tuesday.

Ou said the decision is significant in resuming international exchanges in the post-pandemic era. Not only does it show Japan’s recognition of Taiwan’s efforts to contain COVID-19, it will also help resume business exchanges between the two sides.

Ou said the government hopes that Taiwan and Japan will deepen disease prevention cooperation to keep COVID-19 at bay.

To apply for a visa from the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Taiwanese businesspeople must present proof of employment or a letter of invitation.

They are required to submit negative test results for COVID-19, taken three days before boarding, and will be subject to testing upon arrival at the airport. Furthermore, they will be placed under a 14-day quarantine period either at home or at designated facilities.
