Taiwan reported one more case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the nation’s total number of cases so far to 489.
The new patient is an Indonesian man who had initially tested negative after completing his 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Taiwan. Health authorities say he came into contact with 35 people in Taiwan. They have been asked to stay in home isolation and monitor their health.
Meanwhile, IHR National Focal Point has informed of two cases of people testing positive for COVID-19 after leaving Taiwan. One is a Vietnamese woman who was working in northern Taiwan. She left Taiwan and entered Vietnam on August 7. She had tested negative twice after arriving, but then tested positive on August 26 after another test. The center says the fact that she only tested positive 19 days after leaving Taiwan, means it is not likely she was infected in Taiwan. The four people she had come in contact with Taiwan have also tested negative.
Another case is a Japanese man who returned to Japan from Taiwan on August 31 and tested positive upon arrival. His traveling companion has tested negative. Health authorities have only traced one person who has come in contact with this patient.
