Foreign Minister Joseph Wu says that the new senior-level Taiwan-US economic dialogue will be a channel for discussing business issues outside the bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
The new platform, called “Economic and Commercial Dialogue”, will be led by the US Department of State's under secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment. The dialogue will make way for energy and infrastructure talks, Wu says.
Wu says that Taiwan and the US are still discussing when to start talks, the list of participants, as well as the possibility of holding TIFA conferences this year.
Hsiao Bi-khim, Taiwan's new representative to the US, says that the dialogue will also cover discussions on semiconductors, 5G, and medicine, and will serve to support TIFA. Hsiao says that Taiwan will actively respond to the US’ proposals, and that she hopes these talks will be held regularly in the future.
