The annual Penghu fireworks festival came to a close on Thursday after a two-month run. The final show was a grand finale featuring drones in addition to fireworks. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was a success, attracting a large crowd of spectators.
The annual Penghu International Fireworks Festival is one of Taiwan’s biggest summer tourism spectaculars. This year’s festival came to a close on Thursday, after a two-month-long celebration.
The festival has been held since 2003. It normally starts in April, but it was delayed this year until July due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The late start had no effect on the number of people who came to watch the show. More than 510,000 people took part in the festivities this year, and the festival generated NT$2.55 billion (US$87 million).
The final show included a light display by 300 coordinated drones, adding a Marvel superhero theme to the closing of yet another successful fireworks season.
