Taiwan's Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says that a COVID-19 vaccine may hit the market as soon as January 2021. That came during a radio interview, which aired on Monday.
Chen says that, currently, three domestic companies’ vaccines are undergoing clinical trials. He says that even though Taiwan is making steady progress with regards to a COVID-19 vaccine, there is still a lot of preparation work to be done.
Experts are working extensively to determine the safety and efficacy of the vaccines under trial. With safety as the top priority, Taiwan is also in the process of acquiring a COVID-19 vaccine from overseas. Chen says that although a vaccine may be ready as soon as January of next year, supplies won’t be steady until quarter three of 2021.
Chen said the government will give local developers the support they need to create a vaccine. He says that the vaccine’s rollout may not be timely, but inoculation is a long-term investment for society.
