The Central Epidemic Command Center on Monday confirmed one new imported case of COVID-19 from Nepal. That brings the total number of cases in Taiwan to 494.
The new case is a man in his 20s who traveled to Nepal in February for a religious event. He returned to Taiwan on September 3. The man tested negative for COVID-19 three days before boarding his flight. Upon arrival, the man was placed in home quarantine. However, he developed symptoms on September 5 and notified health authorities who arranged for the man to get tested. The result came back positive on Monday.
Health officials have since identified 25 people who have come in contact with the patient, including four family members who live with him. They have all been placed under home isolation. 16 crew members who worked on the patient’s return flight to Taiwan were asked to monitor their own health, as they had worn proper protection throughout the duration of the flight.
