Vietnam is now considered a “low-risk” country and Hong Kong is a “medium-risk” area in terms of COVID-19 risk. That was the word from the Central Epidemic Command Center on Wednesday. The center made the change due to the slowing spread of COVID-19 in those areas.
This change will enable short-term business travelers from Vietnam and Hong Kong to apply for shorter quarantine periods in Taiwan. Only business travelers from low- to mid-risk countries can apply for these shortened quarantine periods.
The center says the following countries and regions are now categorized as low-risk: New Zealand, Macau, Palau, Fiji, Brunei, Thailand, Mongolia, Bhutan, Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Nauru, East Timor , Mauritius, and Vietnam. Medium-risk countries and regions are Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, and Hong Kong.
Taiwan has so far recorded 495 cases of COVID-19. Of these, 403 are imported, 55 are domestic, 36 are from a cluster infection aboard a navy ship, and the source of one case is unknown. 475 COVID-19 patients have recovered, seven have died, and 13 others are still being treated in isolation wards.
