Premier Su Tseng-chang says the government will crack down on counterfeit face masks imported from China. That’s after two Taiwanese face mask manufacturers were found taking non-medical grade face masks from China and falsely labeling them as medical-grade masks made in Taiwan.
At a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Su said all China-made face masks will be seized and confiscated, and that manufacturers caught selling fake masks will be blacklisted.
Su said that only clearly-labelled, medical grade face masks that have been entirely made in Taiwan may be sold under the government’s mask rationing program. Su said that foreign-made face masks can only be imported with government permission. They must come with labels noting their place of origin and whether they are medical grade.
