The foreign ministry has praised Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil’s recent visit to Taiwan, calling it a “beautiful show of human dignity.” The Czech Senate leader was in Taiwan earlier in the month at the head of an 89-person delegation from the Czech Republic.
The foreign ministry’s statement comes on the heels of protest and retaliation from Beijing, which strongly opposed Vystrčil’s trip to Taiwan.
The foreign ministry says that other countries should see Vystrčil’s visit as a stand for democracy in the face of oppression. It says that Vystrčil’s trip brought major opportunities for Taiwan-Czech Republic relations, and represents a step forward for democracy, supply chain cooperation, and cultural exchanges in particular.
