Taiwan reported a sighting of a Chinese reconnaissance vessel off its east coast Thursday. That’s as Taiwan’s military began two days of missile testing. The spy ship was still spotted in the same area on Friday. Military sources say that this is the longest a Chinese reconnaissance vessel has been observed around Taiwanese waters in recent years.
The military says that the Chinese spy vessel was first seen about 38 to 75 nautical miles off Taiwan’s east coast last Friday. As the spy ship did not attempt to enter Taiwan’s 24 nautical mile contiguous zone, Taiwanese vessels were only able to monitor the ship from afar.
The defense ministry says that it maintains complete surveillance of the waters and airspace around Taiwan to ensure national security.
