President Tsai Ing-wen had high praise for the nation’s teachers on Monday, which is observed as Teachers Day in Taiwan. Her comments came during a ceremony to award 72 exceptional teachers.
Tsai spoke, in particular, about how teachers have been instrumental in the fight against COVID-19.
“The efforts of the government and the public have enabled Taiwan to become the only country in the world that has kept its schools open during the pandemic,” she said. “Teachers have been instrumental in implementing pandemic prevention measures in schools.”
President Tsai thanked the teachers for all they have done in helping to reduce the impact of the pandemic on education.
