The government’s travel accommodations subsidies will be available through the end of October. The announcement came just as Taiwan is getting ready for two major holidays that month - the Moon Festival and National Day.
The government is allowing each citizen to get NT$1,000 off one night’s accommodation in Taiwan proper and two nights on offshore islands. The initiative has been very popular, and earlier, the government announced the budget for the plan may be used up. It had earlier pushed the original end date back from October to September.
Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung said that the subsidy program has been very effective. He said the program has led to 11.5 million vacation stays. He expects it to lead to a total of 17.25 million vacation stays by the end of October and NT$63.5 billion (about US$ 2 billion) in tourism revenues. He said that the program coupled with the government’s stimulus coupons has brought in much business for the tourism industry.
Lin said that he hopes people can use this opportunity to enjoy and discover what Taiwan has to offer.
