Taiwan and Central American ally Belize have signed a cooperation agreement covering criminal matters and judicial affairs.
The signing took place separately in each of the two countries due to COVID-19. The conclusion of the agreement is the result of a year of work involving the justice ministry, the foreign ministry, and Taiwan’s embassy in Belize.
The agreement provides for the two countries to assist one another in criminal investigations, prosecutions, and court hearings, as well as in work to prevent crime. Specific areas of cooperation covered by the agreement include the formation of joint investigation teams and cooperation in freezing assets and implementing fines.
This is the seventh such cooperation agreement Taiwan has concluded so far.
