Tree houses are rare in Taiwan, as most people don’t have properties with backyards. And, even those who do generally don’t have much in the way of trees.
But in Changhua County, there’s a special tree house that people travel from across Taiwan just to see.
You may have heard the English nursery rhyme about a little old lady who lives in a shoe. Well, have you heard of the little old lady with a full-sized tree in her bathroom?
Ms. Huang lives in a three story building that her husband built for them 40 years ago, a building centered around a tree.
Ms. Huang’s husband being the tree-hugger that he was, he refused to cut the tree down after he purchased the land. His solution was to build around the tree, letting it extend through the bathroom on the second-floor and poke out the other side of the building. The building looks like it’s almost completely wrapped in green!
Ms. Huang says the tree keeps the heat away, and she never has to turn on the air conditioning.
