Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council has urged Taiwanese people to avoid taking part in China’s National Day celebrations on October 1.
The council made the statement after two Taiwanese entertainers performed in a pre-recorded National Day special aired on China Central Television Wednesday night.
One of the two entertainers, Ouyang Nana, sang a patriotic song alongside singers from Hong Kong and Macao. The other, Angela Chang, sang a piece praising China’s disease prevention efforts. Both singers may face fines upon their return to Taiwan.
The Mainland Affairs Council says that Taiwanese people should avoid being used as propaganda tools.
The council also accused China of jeopardizing cross-strait peace by continuing to send aircraft across the mid-point of the Taiwan Strait. It says the maneuvers have only succeeded in producing resentment among Taiwanese people.
