A new organization called the Taiwan Climate Service Alliance has formed in an effort to promote Taiwan’s “Weather Enterprise”.
“The Weather Enterprise” is a term specialists use to describe the combination of government agencies, academics, and private companies that together observe and forecast the weather and issue weather alerts.
The private, commercial part of this equation, or the weather industry, is a profitable sector in some countries, but in Taiwan, it is remains comparatively small and undeveloped. Experts believe Taiwan’s weather industry has potential, however. They say the industry could grow to generate ten times as much in revenue in the near future.
Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung announced the establishment of the Taiwan Climate Service Alliance Wednesday during a forum organized by the Central Weather Bureau. The alliance is expected to write up a white paper on the development of Taiwan’s Weather Enterprise.
