Ten of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies have signed a petition in support of Taiwan’s bid to join the United Nations.
In a joint letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres delivered Friday, they said that Taiwan’s exclusion from the global body is unfair. They demanded that the UN take immediate action to address the issue, and correct the mistake of depriving Taiwanese people and Taiwanese media of their right to attend and cover UN-related events.
The ten allies said that Taiwan has the right to participate with equality and dignity in UN activities and mechanisms with sustainable development goals.
The allies who signed the petition were Belize, E-swatini, Haiti, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tuvalu.
