The foreign ministry is calling on the international community to condemn China’s thuggish behavior in Fiji. That’s the word from Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Joanne Ou on Tuesday.
She was referring to China’s attempts to disrupt Taiwan’s National Day celebrations in Fiji in early October. It was reported that a Taiwanese official in Fiji was assaulted when two Chinese diplomats attempting to force their way into a reception were denied entry on October 8. The injured official has since recovered and was released from the hospital.
Ou said the incident has once again revealed China’s violent, brutal and thuggish behavior. Ou said Taiwan has zero tolerance towards China’s use of violence and the government will not allow similar incidents from happening again.
The foreign ministry has already filed a report with the Fiji police and the government will continue to seek justice and maintain Taiwan’s national dignity.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said China has no right to interfere in Taiwan’s National Day celebrations as Taiwan is an independent sovereignty.
