The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) says the transfer of political power won’t change ties between Taiwan and the United States. That’s the word from AIT Spokeswoman Amanda Mansour last Friday.

The AIT is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic ties between the two countries. Mansour made the statement in her speech on US-Taiwan ties at National Quemoy University.

Mansour said relations between the two countries are based on long-standing friendship. The ties won’t change because of the transfer of political power from one party to another.

In her speech, Mansour also introduced AIT’s roles and missions, with an emphasis on culture, the economy and education. She encouraged students to pursue higher education in the US.
