Three politicians from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party usually find each other agreeable, but there is an exception. When it comes to a popular dish called rice with marinated pork, each thinks the one made in his city or county is the best.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai made it clear. The rice dish with marinated pork made in Tainan is so-so because Kaohsiung does it a lot better.
Rice with marinated pork is a popular dish across Taiwan. It’s delicious, inexpensive and almost everyone loves it! But what’s so special about the one made in Kaohsiung? A small restaurant owner says the dish has just the perfect taste - it’s a little sweet, but not too sweet.
But Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che doesn’t agree at all. Huang says an authentic savory rice dish should be a bit sweet. He is 100% confident in the way the delicacy is made in his city.
But what about Pintung County? Some say they have the best sauce. Commissioner Pan Men-an says the one there tops them all. There is no comparison. To challenge the two mayors, Pan even posted a picture of him eating the local delicacy on Facebook.
