The Summit on Taiwan-Japan Exchange, an association organized by city councilors across Japan, has urged Tokyo to push for a Taiwan-Japan Exchange Basic Law.
According to the Kaga Declaration, the Taiwan-Japan Exchange Basic Law aims to promote diplomatic ties and ensure security.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual event kicked off Monday in Kaga city, Shikawa prefecture and attracted about 300 participants. Taiwan’s representative to Japan, Frank Hsieh, also attended. Hsieh said the Summit has deepened bilateral ties.
Participants also urged the Japanese government to support Taiwan’s bid to join the World Health Organization and the CPTPP. The CPTPP or the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership is a trade bloc led by Japan.
