VIDEO: “Combat Readiness Week” enters fourth day
Taiwan in fourth day of Combat Readiness Week

With increased threats from China in recent weeks, Taiwan’s military is in combat readiness in case of a real war. A “Combat Readiness Week” is now in its fourth day.

What’s a Black Hawk helicopter doing in an open field next to a high speed rail station? Not long after, an Apache attack helicopter lands in the same place. It turns out these helicopters are taking part in a series of nationwide exercises being dubbed “Combat Readiness Week”.

Soldiers are practicing a range of actions and maneuvers, from filling helicopter gas tanks to replenishing military supplies while their vehicles are in motion on the ground. All soldiers must also learn to carry a warhead that can weigh as much as 40kgs on their shoulders.

Drills are taking place in civilian areas, including on city streets throughout Taiwan. The idea is to prepare for actual wartime scenarios. Preparedness pays, and the armed forces are leaving nothing to chance.
