Multi-platinum singer and two-time Oscar award-winner Barbara Streisand has praised Taiwan on Twitter for successfully containing COVID-19. Streisand’s remarks came during a chain of posts criticizing US President Donald Trump’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In her tweet, Streisand called President Tsai Ing-wen “wonderful,” and said that Taiwan’s successful handling of the outbreak shows “what real leadership looks like”. The tweet has garnered over 600 retweets and nearly 4,000 likes.
Twitter users responded positively to Streisand’s comments, with a few pointing out that Taiwan remains locked-out of the World Health Organization due to Chinese obstruction.
This is the second time that Streisand has openly lauded Taiwan on social media for its COVID-19 containment efforts. Streisand first highlighted Taiwan’s success on Twitter in April, pointing out that the country only had 350 confirmed cases and seven deaths.
