Foreign Minister Joseph Wu says China is still the main obstacle to Taiwan’s participation in the upcoming World Health Assembly (WHA). His remarks came during a report at the legislature on Monday morning.
The WHA is set to reconvene on November 9. Taiwan has been blocked from participating in the WHA, due to opposition from China.
Wu says that the government is working hard to garner support from other countries. When a lawmaker asked whether Wu has faith that Taiwan will be invited to the WHA, Wu said “I have faith that Taiwan will rally more support from other countries.”
Wu says that the biggest obstacle is still the China-factor. He said that a breakthrough will only come if Taiwan lobbies countries, one-by-one, and convinces them to support Taiwan.
