Taiwan on Monday confirmed five more cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 563. All five are imported cases, including three people from Indonesia and one each from India and the Philippines.
Central Epidemic Command Center spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang spoke on Monday about an increase in the number of migrant workers who are testing positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Taiwan. He said that includes 20 migrant workers from the Philippines and 11 from Indonesia.
Chuang said that all people coming to Taiwan to serve as domestic caregivers must undergo 14 days of quarantine at a government facility. The same is true for all migrant workers arriving from Indonesia, and everyone arriving from the Philippines.
To date, the vast majority of Taiwan’s COVID-19 cases -- 471 in total -- have been imported from overseas. It has been more than 200 days since Taiwan recorded the last domestic infection. Official records show that seven people have died of the disease in Taiwan, 519 people have recovered, and 37 are still in hospital.
