The foreign ministry has condemned the terrorist attack in Vienna, Austria. The shootings that took place in Vienna on Tuesday left two people dead, including one attacker, and 14 others wounded.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Joanne Ou said the government is opposed to any hate crime and that Taiwan stands firm with Austrians in difficult times.

Ou also denounced the harm done by terrorist attacks to democracies and their people. She said that the government’s long-standing policy has been to resolve disputes peacefully through dialogue.

The foreign ministry has already expressed its condolences to the Austrian Office Taipei.

President Tsai Ing-wen has also directed the foreign ministry to ensure the safety of Taiwanese nationals in Austria and offer them necessary assistance.
