Three Taiwanese-American New York politicians re-elected

Three Taiwanese-American politicians of the Democratic Party have been re-elected in New York. They are Congresswoman Grace Meng, New York State Senator John Liu, and New York State Assemblywoman Yuh-line Niou. 

Meng represents New York’s 6th Congressional District in Queens. She won her 5th term as Congresswoman with nearly 63% of the vote. She was born and raised in Queens, and is the daughter of immigrants from Taiwan. Since 2017, she has also been Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

John Liu got re-elected for his second term as a New York State Senator with 55% of the vote. He represents the 11th Senate District in northeast Queens. Liu is the Chairman of the New York City Education Committee. He previously served as the New York City Comptroller from 2010 to 2013 and was a member of the New York City Council from 2002 to 2009. 

Yuh-Line Niou got re-elected to the New York State Assembly with 57% of the vote. She represents the 65th district in Lower Manhattan. The district includes Chinatown, the Financial District, Battery Park City, and the Lower East Side. She is the first Asian-American elected to the State Assembly for this district and the only Asian American in the New York State legislature. She was born in Taipei.
